Submitting prices on Lensi
Every trusted price starts with someone sharing what they actually paid. This guide reflects how the submission form behaves today, including optional receipt upload and offline support.
1. Find the product
Start from a product page, the Price Explorer, or directly at /submit. Search for the device you bought by name or brand. If the name matches a known product, Lensi will pre-fill the category and typical price range.
2. Enter the price and context
- Use the full amount you paid in KES, including taxes and mandatory fees.
- Select the closest location (for example, "Nairobi CBD").
- Choose whether the device was new or used.
- In the notes field, you can mention bundle deals, colour, warranty, or other useful context.
3. Add the place you bought from
When the vendor directory feature is enabled, you will see a searchable list of shops instead of a free-text field. Pick the place where you bought the device, or add a new listing if it is missing.
If the directory is not enabled in your environment, you can still enter the shop name in free text (for example, "Shop X, Luthuli Avenue"). These details still help other people make sense of the price.
4. Optional: upload a receipt
You can upload a clear photo or screenshot of your receipt. Lensi's OCR service will try to read the product name, price, shop name, and date to speed up the form.
- Supported formats are JPEG, PNG, and WebP up to 10 MB.
- Personal details such as phone numbers or tax IDs are automatically redacted before storage.
- You can always correct the extracted values before submitting.
5. What happens after you submit
After you submit a price:
- Your submission is stored and linked to the product, location, and (if available) vendor listing.
- Lensi calculates an updated trust score for the price range using your data plus existing receipts and vendor submissions.
- Some submissions may need manual review or extra evidence. In those cases, the data may take a little longer to appear in public views.
Offline submissions
If you lose connection while filling in the form, Lensi will try to save the submission on your device and sync it later once you are back online. You will see status messages at the bottom of the form when this happens.
For a deeper explanation of how this works and its limits, see Offline use.
